Statement in response to the election announcement (18 April, 2017)

Councillor Dr Zahid Chauhan, Chair of the Oldham West and Royton Labour Party said: “This is the most important General Election in Britain for decades and it is our opportunity to stop the march of right-wing politics and its dogma of division and self-interest. If we want social justice, equality, opportunity and decent healthcare for all, then Labour is the only party to vote for on June 8th. Locally, we must re-elect the MPs that have done so much to stand-up for Oldham in the face of the draconian and damaging austerity of central Government. And imagine what a hopeful and unified country we would be if all constituencies across the country did the same – and put Labour into power.”
