I would like to thank all my friends and comrades who have supported me over the last five weeks.
Unfortunately due to variety of national and local reasons we couldn’t do well.
Although the Labour party has lost the election in Cheadle I have made so many new friends. I will always cherish your selfless love and support.
I wanted to write and thank you for your support in the General Election campaign.
It was an honour and a privilege to be your Labour candidate and an experience I will cherish. During the campaign I was lobbied by many to step aside and let the Tories and Lib Dems fight it out in Cheadle. But I didn’t, I couldn’t.
I stood as a candidate as I believe in building an economy and society that works for everyone.
As the founder of Homeless Friendly I wanted to fight inequality and highlight the disgrace that means in one of the richest countries in the world a homeless person dies every seventeen hours – I did that.
As a GP I have seen firsthand the devastation that austerity and the coalition government have caused in or NHS and by their re-organisations. Only Labour will fix our health service and I wanted to highlight that. I did
To me the Lib Dems and Conservatives are the same – propping up a broken system without a vision for the future.
This is the message I conveyed, on the doorstep in my leaflets and at the hustings.
We worked so hard in Cheadle and I would like to thank you for all you did too. In just 4 weeks we managed to get delivered thousands of leaflets and letters We’ve distributed 100’s of posters and met voters at shops, at train stations and at school gates and you opened your houses to me, arranged meetings and trusted me to speak on your behalf. I made lifelong friends. The friendships I really value.
We’ve shown that Labour are a force in this constituency and when people vote with their heart, people across the area want to vote Labour.
I am proud and thankful to all of you for being part of this journey. Our fight for fairer society will continue .
