“It’s the law of survival and families aren’t always eating traditional meals, they’re eating whatever they can grab to eat. There are takeaways offering £1 chicken and chips which fill you up, right outside school, and when it’s the only thing parents can afford, unfortunately that’s what they’re going to get.”
What we’re seeing now, he says, is the consequence of public health funding having ‘been chopped’. But what we have is ‘a timebomb that will explode in the future’.
“What we have is a future crisis and we’ll struggle to deal with it. It’s not their fault obviously, but in the future these will be the people needing A&E visits and ambulances and will become a burden on the economy.”
